Touch screens use the moisture in our fingers to detect what we’re telling the phone to do. Get the tip of your glove wet and press a little harder than usual…you should be able to switch to a Kanye track.

I’m pretty sure RaptorAvatar already covered this, but I’ve been thinking about it a lot and the more I do, the more pissed off I get. “The Office” is easily the most popular sitcom of this decade, which partially defines our generation. It is by no means the funniest, but that definitely doesn’t mean that the general public doesn’t love it. It’s a big deal. I feel like something this important should be able to stand the test of time. Its goal should be to be funny to future generations, not just be an example of what was popular. Good sitcoms are able to hold up without seeming too dated, and the jokes are what keep it relevant, not the pop culture references. “Seinfeld” is still funny because it dealt with human issues in a way that was more real than “The Office” without even trying with a fake documentary. “The Cosby Show” is still funny without basing all of its jokes on 80s pop culture. Even the fucking Bob Newhart Show is still funny and that ended 30 years ago. You know what show isn’t funny to us? “The Brady Bunch” because it dated the shit out of itself with its cheesy late 60s references. We don’t understand why it’s supposed to be funny, but it’s basically a relic for how our Moms used to spend their time.

And now, the most prominent sitcom of our generation took its monumental moment that the world would be watching which would define how people remembered their show and they built it all up to a 3 minute montage/sight gag based on the real life creativity of someone who isn’t a team of professional comedy writers. When our kids watch this show, they aren’t going to understand why everyone started dancing down the aisle to a shitty R&B song, and our explanation of “Something to do with youtube” is not going to be satisfactory and they’re going to look at us like we’re a bunch of assholes for choosing this show to define us. And really, we are.

I have never agreed with you more.

This was a rad night. Not only did I get to meet hamburgerskeleton, but also dreamweaver, sixhoursago, turkeydinner and sampagan. I didn’t run into MercuryPDX, and didn’t get to say hi to malty, but all in all a fun way to meet a few people behind the scenes.

I was bummed I didn’t get to stay, but a birthday awaited.

You know what’s odd? I sat through and ignored the 18 (19? more?) reblogs of the same wolf picture, yet the brief mention of a character from “That Cartoon Network show I detest and will never name” irks me. Go figure.

This is the one thing (humor-wise) where I disagree completely with you. While I’m not a huge fan of T&E show, I like Dr. Brule.

So I’m moving to Seattle, hopefully before the end of the year. I’ve been in North Carolina for a solid decade and have little to show for it, other than a liberal arts degree and a few dents in my heart. That said, my pair of years as a freelance writer have gone better than I could’ve ever expected, with the kinds of experiences that haven’t paid well but have definitely paid off…if that makes sense.

But I’ve reached the point where I can either stay here, thrashing around and trying to make the most of the limited opportunities nestled between our three movie theatres² OR I can leave, heading for a city with greater possibilities and a thriving music scene that—hopefully—I’ll be able to cover.

There are a number of reasons that I’m packing up my Elvis Costello posters and heading for the Pacific Time Zone, but one of the biggest is that I’m tired of being known for what I was or what I’ve done or who I dated. I was in line at the grocery store the other day, waiting to pay for my 2-for-1 jars of extra crunchy JIF when I saw someone whose asymmetrical haircut looked vaguely familiar. After she eyed me over the rack of InStyle magazines, she said “Didn’t you used to date [EX BOYFRIEND’S NAME GOES HERE]?”. And that was when the camel finally aspirated beneath a big straw stack.

It’s a small enough town that, at least once a week, someone at the gym reminds me of how I used to lose the same race every summer or I’ll see someone who I used to work with at the ad agency or any other variation on this scenario… and I’m tired of it. I’m beyond ready to turn my attention to what I can do, what I will be, and what’s waiting around the next turn, rather than continually adjusting my life’s rearview mirror.

That said, if anyone’s willing to help me with my job search, I’d dig it like no other.³ Obviously, I’m looking for writing and/or creative-ish jobs and can even provide My Official Resume if’n you need it and want to pass it along. Any advice, tips and tricks are appreciated and will be met with a sloppy kiss to your forehead.

I cannot trim my own bangs. I have rocked the side ‘swoop’ bangs for years and for some reason when I attempted to trim my own bangs I come out looking like an American Girl doll.

Damnit all to hell.
