squashed:
Apparently today is Unfollow Friday, and I have something to say that may rub a few people the wrong way.
First, let me say that I’m a huge supporter of free expression. You have the right to say whatever you want however you want to say it. And you have a right to have people take your words seriously—even if that means bad consequences for you. Freedom of speech means freedom to say what you want and freedom to bear the consequences of whatever you want so say. And, as I argued earlier, combining free expression with an awareness of the world around you means that there are some things you will say.
There are a few lines you do not cross in civil, political discourse. Specifically, you do not go anywhere near criticism of a candidate’s parenting of disabled children. You may not say that Sarah Palin should not be Vice President because she should stay home and take care of her disabled child. You may absolutely not insinuate that Palin would be more qualified if she had aborted the child. That would be classless and disgusting. Dear Internet: Stop.
…
I don’t know if Squashed had read my reblog of the pic of Sarah Palin that was posted; but if so, and if this was a response to my reblog, then I have to say.
OK
Mind you, I never said that she shouldn’t be running for VP, nor any of the other claims (obviously a few people have gone over the edge here). What I said, I do stand by; if I were in her situation, I wouldn’t be traipsing around the country for the next 3 months. That being said, maybe she’s a stronger person than I. Perhaps her family is well organized, responsible and supportive enough that it won’t make a difference. It just wouldn’t be my call.
What the hell is Unfollow Friday? And who the hell cares so much about how many followers they have???
